Oh boy, here we go again. But since you asked, here is MY reply.
There is ONE GSD standard--people have different interpretations of
it; indeed that is why there are breed shows where judges look at what
they're presented, choosing the best dogs that are closest to the
standard. In performance, judges choose the dogs that are performing
BEST the tasks at hand. If GSD owners choose to interpret the
standard, I hope they do so wisely. I remember the first GSD I
bought. At the time, I thought he was GREAT--he wasn't. The best
thing about him was that he was OFA certified. He was square. But as
I began to show in obedience and breed, I learned and could tell the
difference between the PET I bought and the correct dogs I was seeing
in the breed and obedience rings. I read every book I could get my
hands on, talked to anyone who would talk to me; more importantly, I
listened. As a newbie, I wasn't accusatory, demanding or unkind. I
didn't have a chip on my shoulder because I had bought a pet. I
learned from it!

Now it's off to VA Beach, where there are a couple of specialty shows
this weekend. Yahoo!
