Paul, while reviewing your suggestion is has come to mind that, for the 100+, list the award contains the standard telescope plate, a plaque and a book of choice. As indicted in the award description the budget for each award is $100.00, which was decided upon several years back. Speaking of the 100+ it may need to be reviewed to indicate the HII objects aren't included, or something like that. As far as SAC belonging to the AL - I'm not a fan of that. Perhaps SAC should start its own award program, the 'SAC Herschel 800'. It would require doing both lists of 400, which Joe has already done. A nice plaque would be in order, not just a crummy scrap of paper like the AL gives out. (Joe should also get a big empty box of invisible objects.) Also, we could have a very lively discussion about the AL. Seven groups in Arizona are members, and the list includes familiar names like Dan Heim. But I don't see the TAAA on their list anymore. Back in Illinois, our club was a member of the AL, and it seemed like thay provided very good information for novices. They also held regional conventions at famous places like Fermilab. They have an annual head-tax, but I'm sure that's not the only reason why many clubs don't belong. - Paul ----- Original Message ----- From: "AJ Crayon" <acrayon@xxxxxxx> To: "SAC Bored" <SAC-Board@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, September 25, 2008 8:56 AM Subject: [sac-board] Herschel II Award > As a few of you know Joe Goss has completed this observing program and I'm > trying to determine what should the Deep Sky Group Chairman, along with > agreement of the Board, present as an award. > I've spoke with the Herschel II program managers and they indicate that to > get this award one, or their club, must be a member of the Astronomical > League.
