Remember that ROC launches are "paid events", not simple "get togethers".

It sounds to me like fearless leader is all over it and doing the right
things to maintain our friendly and
good relationship with the BLM officials.

The last thing we would need is for good hearted members to stir the pot of
an already frustrating situation.
We elected the ROC board to be the point of contact for the club.

My interpretation of this is, you are required to have permission from the
fire marshall in order to launch, but only if the location you want to
launch at is within a city or town limits, thus controlled by a fire
department. The lake beds seem to all be in BLM controlled land, and
according to the Barstow BLM Field Office, there is a continuous 'blanket'
of permission to the fire-marshall requirement for the lake beds regarding
rocket launches.

I'm actually thinking of going out there tomorrow, mainly to see if my
Electron Beams and PortaPads still work. Weather says the wind is gonna be
under 10mph all day, sunny and 60s.

Keep in mind that the "BLM permit" is to hold an *event* on BLM-managed
land, not to launch rockets.

Here are some resources that might help in determining what it takes to
launch rockets in California. Note that they may not be complete, or up to
date, particularly regarding BATFE no longer regulating AP.

from SCRA http://home.earthlink.net/~mebowitz/siteaid.pdf

from LUNAR http://www.lunar.org/docs/handbook/regs.shtml

from DART http://www.dartrocketry.org/rules.html

from SARG
http://www.sargrocket.org/Documents/California_Code_of_Regulations_Model_Roc
kets%5B1%5D.pdf

I have a handout that I got at a class at FAR for the CA. Pyro license that
covered pretty much everything needed to do rocketry in California, but I
can't find it right now :-(
Maybe someone that's a member or launches there could make an inquiry about
getting ahold of one.

HTH,
Mike

P.S. I'm not a member of the ROC board, but I did read a couple of posts
requesting that people not make inquiries about the status of the BLM
permit. If people are going to contact the BLM, I'd suggest not even
referencing the situation or even ROC, and just making a general inquiry
along the lines of "What permission (if any) do I need to launch rockets on
BLM land?"

Question Regarding Model Rocketry: Is the public allowed to launch model
rockets in areas assigned for that purpose? As I notice that the regular
scheduled Rocket Launches for ROC are halted due to some contractural
matters, is it OK for the general public to use the area for launching ?
Area in question is Lucerne Valley
