The Canon drivers are more than adequate for printing text with low-res colour. For some users they are even good enough for photo printing. In any case, they are bound to be a lot better than the standard Canon drivers, simply because Gutenprint's colour processing and dithering is far more advanced. For more detailed comments you need to ask someone who has a Canon printer and who has tried it with Gutenprint.
