If you want separate volume, pan, and processing control on each take, then yes.

If you are happy with the setting per given track, then you can record in sound on sound blend mode, but just don't turn on track layers.

Any recordings recorded on one track then can be treated as one recording, every time you record again, no matter whether it's on one track or not, it's considered a clip.

I often
record multiple clips or takes on a single track, then bounce them down to one clip, but this is different than using track layers.

If you want to treat each recording differently, then use another track,
it doesn't matter how many,
this is the way for us, and I do have projects that do have a hundred tracks on them, not very many but I do have some,

Chris;
You mean that each take if it will follow the previous track that I must
take it on another track? I will have then more than 100 tracks for
instance, are you using this idea in recording? Or what?
Suggestions please

Clone your track and make another take.

It doesn't hurt to have a bunch of tracks, and then you can cut and
paste between them all and make it come out right.
