However, at higher concentrations H2S desensitizes the nose and can no
longer be detected.  This has caused numerous deaths from H2S poisoning.

        I do know that H2S is one of the chemicals that the human nose
can detect at extremely low concentrations. If If remember right, like
the mercaptans in skunk spray it can be detected in the parts per
billion range.
