Before ammonium thiosulfate was readily available rapid fixers were made from
sodium thiosulfate with an ammonium salt such as ammonium chloride or sulfate
added.

Agfa Rapid Fixing Bath 304

Water (50 degrees C) 600 ml
Sodium thiosulfate, pentahydrate 200 g
Ammonium chloride 50 g
Potassium metabisulfite 20 g
Water to make 1 l

Dissolve the thiosulfate in the warm water and allow to cool.  Dissolve the
remaining ingredients in a small amount of water and add to the thiosulfate
solution with constant stirring.  Use full strength.
