The difficulty is setting the price. I once sold an 11x14 camera to an Internet regular, someone with whom I'd had numerous positive interchanges with. I sold it for less than what looked like the going rate, because he seemed so excited about using it, and I wanted to help out... Two weeks later, I saw it on Ebay. It sold for double what I sold it to him for. So trying to be nice and helpful lead to my feeling unfairly used.

Here's another example, I just sold a Fujinon C 600 mm large format lens. The buyer paid exactly the same that a new one would cost from Badger Graphic Sales. So without the auction, I would've sold it for significantly less, simply because I want to be fair and reasonable. The problem is, I'm not wealthy, and I'd have lost hundreds of dollars if I sold it without auctioning it.
