I'd seen that in the past. I'm trained in electronics professionally and
some of the solutions there were appealing. The problem is a mechanical one.
Unless you can get into the guts of the device to install corrective circuitry,
you're hard pressed to come up with a simple solution.
This is why I like the CRIS adapters so much. The look like an old 625 battery
and fit in the same space. They just have a hollowed out cavity to accept a
modern 1.5 volt silver oxide hearing aid battery. It's an elegant, albeit
expensive, solution. Over the years, I bought enough of these for all my
old cameras. I've never regretted this.
Incidently, when you CAN easily get into a device, sometimes you can just
recalibrate it against a known good meter to use the newer S76 batteries.
I've done this a number of times with old "no good" LunaPro and LunaSix
meters. It's a tricky and delicate operation, but I've got 3 or 4 of these
laying around that I got for $25-20 (or less) and rehabbed to full operation
just doing this. If it didn't take so long to do, I'd make a business
out of it because those meters are really terrific.
