Hi Jamie

Indeed it does and I would probably not use a CD if not absolutely
necessary.

Will try to get hold of some other microphones to do some more
experimenting.

Regards

Andre

Andre,

I should first say that I am very much a casual user of the PTR2 and I don't
use it in any professional or audio engineering way, so my opinion is based
on non-expert observation rather than a careful analysis of different
methods.

Having said that, I do tend to find that using a pre-amp gives a better
quality end recording.

I suppose it rather depends on what you are wanting to record and whether it
is practical to carry round a pre-amp in some circumstances.

Whether you use a pre-amp via the line in socket or the microphone direct
into the mike socket, I definitely think that the quality is pretty good.
The key is to record onto the CF card initially rather than onto a CD
direct. This is the bit that, for me at least, makes the difference.

Hope this makes sense.

Jamie

Hi Jamie

Most interesting. So you actually get better results using a preamp than
using the microphone input socket of the plextalk? Is that correct?

Andre,

I can't give you a personal opinion in terms of comparing a condenser mike
with a dynamic mike but would say that, in my opinion, the best recording
results I've had have been using a condenser mike and recording onto the CF
card using the line in jack with a pre-amp. If I then need a CD copy, I use
the backup process after doing any editing that's required.

I've always found that, if you record direct onto a CD there is often a
faint squeaking sound ends up on the final recording.

Hope this helps.

Jamie

Hi all

Just want to find out if I am correct here.

It does seem as if the plextalk ptr2 seem to work better with an external
condenser microphone than with a dynamic microphone? I have a reasonably
good quality sennheiser dynamic microphone I tested with the ptr2. I found
that in order to get reasonable results, I had to turn up the recording
level up to full.

I would be most interested to hear what other people's experiences are
regarding using external microphones with the plextalk.

Regards

Andre
