Couldn't talk you into installing Firefox 13 I guess. ;-) You did check to see if Flash is enabled on the plugins page. Over the years I've had problems with Flash installs. Usually I end up ripping all of flash out and starting over. On this page there is a flash install uninstaller about half way down. http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/find-version-flash-player.html You might try that. I'll be glad when Adobe flash is gone and everything is html5. (Then you will have to update, I'm afraid. ;-) ) I've really never been a fan of Flash, too many updates. Too many security problems. Way too resource hungry. With android it's even worse. Wait for the valium to take effect before proceeding. ;-) Ben -----Original Message----- From: pcworks-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:pcworks-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Clint Hamilton-PCWorks Admin Sent: Thursday, June 21, 2012 9:46 AM To: pcworks@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: [PCWorks] Can an update be rolled-back in FireFox? It was 3.5.17, I tried to update to 3.6.?? (it's what it said I needed when I checked for udpates) and it got (as I expected) HOSED. So as per the email I just posted, I had to go back to the previous version. Ok I see the Themes area, thanks! No, not on this PC! Like I said below, there is no option to save, it just tries to install it on-the-fly! And that ridiculous McAfee toolbar is NOT checked, so I don't know why the URL says that, apparently they try and shove it down your throat regardless. As for Java, I had to search for the file on my HD then manually click it, then it installed ok so that much is fixed. But even after getting the file "install_flashplayer10x32_mssd_aih.exe" from OTHER websites, it still won't install and still gives that #$#%! error message! "Host Unable to load application configuration" "Host" is on the title bar of the popup. I've tried searching for that issue and all I find is BS search-engine-bait pages, or morons that reply with "use another browser like Chrome". <disgust> >"Do you have your system locked down where >the installer can't get out to the download?" ?? I have no idea. Further, as for that idiotic "Some plugins used by this page are out of date" message, there is actually an area in the Extensions and Plugins area, at the top, where you can DISABLE that kind of checking, and it IS disabled on mine! Yet the spastic message still showed up! But after going back to my previous version of FF, it no longer shows up. Yet another example of why you NEVER update anything unless you have endless hours to fix a ruined PC. But the problem is the a-hole websites that FORCE you to update, or the BLOCK their content from you! It's a global conspiracy to FORCE EVERYONE to use the EXACT SAME version of EVERYTHING....or else you're just blocked out from everything. Communism. Long gone are the days of having a CHOICE and OPTIONS, and CONTROL over what you want. I need a Valium now. LoL. So what remains now, even after going back to my previous FF version, is I still can't update Adobe, and now even though the RealPlayer plugin is back and supposedly downloading videos, when I try to click the download they are all "Cannot render the file"!! So even after going back to the previous version the RP plugin doesn't work! -Clint God Bless, Clint Hamilton, Owner www.OrpheusComputing.com www.ComputersCustomBuilt.com www.OrpheusComputing.com/most_reliable_cheapest_webhosting.html www.OrpheusComputing.com/office/computer_accessories.html ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ben Moore" Which version of Firefox are you running? On the addons page select appearance on the left and see if you have a different color scheme installed. Try the java from this page http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp I would uninstall java first if you've been having problems updating. For Flash ... it always just saves. Then you have to run it from the saved location. The link you provided includes that stupid McAfee scan thing. Get the other link on that page. If you have problems, again, uninstall the old one although usually you shouldn't have to. Since you are getting all those weird messages, I assume you've updated to a more current version of FF. Firefox is following Chrome in disabling plugin's and extensions that might cause problems without your permission. It's the wave of the future, Clint. You have no control. I've never gotten that "some plugins" message. Of course I keep my plugins updated. Maybe it's a message just for you. ;-) Both Flash and Java use installers that download the file after you start the install. Do you have your system locked down where the installer can't get out to the download? Ben -----Original Message----- Ok thanks Phil. Well I updated it, and the toolbar changed to some strange abstract blue color and I can't see how to change it back! I can't find any area about skins. Furthermore, I picked a bookmark at random, and I get this BS about "Some plugins used by this page are out of date", then I click to update them, and this PoS tells me it has DISABLED Java: "For your safety, Firefox has disabled your outdated version of Java. Please upgrade to the latest version", (which goes to http://www.java.com/en/download/inc/windows_new_xpi.jsp ) and I can't update it! The wonderful HELPFUL "An unknown error has occurred"! Who the hell is it to disable anything without my permission?? Then I also see on the page https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/ where it tells me I need the Java update a bunch of other "necessary" updates such as Adobe Shockwave, and it also won't update it either! For MONTHS I have been trying to update Shockwave http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and download is STILL corrupt! Except now, it too says the same "unknown error has occurred" as the Java gave! http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/download/?installer=Flash_Player_10_for_Oth er_Browsers&os=XP&browser_type=Gecko&browser_dist=Firefox&d=McAfee_Security_ Scan_Plus "When Opening dialog box appears, click Save File", there is no "Opening dialog"!! This is ridiculous. This is why I hate that browser. How do I simply get RID of that annoying "Some plugins used by this page are out of date" message so I never have to see it again? And how do I get rid of that blue skin and put it back to default? Thanks, -Clint ----- Original Message ----- From: "Phill Argus" Worked for me when one of the add ons I use wasn't compatible with the new version for a few days till it (the add on) was updated.
