Note:  If you changed your theme to Classic Windows (instead of default
Vista theme) your menu will look totally different and my original message
may not be correct for you.

Click the Start button and start typing.  Cursor is automatically placed in
the search box.  Results will display in the Start Menu window.

There is a way to add Search to the right side of the Start Menu but I don't
remember where I saw it at.
