NO...once they are deleted from the deleted items, they are gone....that's why I recommend regularly backing up your pst file so you can get back to a version of the pst file BEFORE you deleted it from the deleted items Yes....you should get into the habit of backing up your pst file....if you are using Outlook 2000 or 2002, Microsoft has a free addin that adds a "Backup" command to your File menu (which also lets you schedule regular backups) and you can get that here: http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2002/pfbackup.aspx If you are using Outlook 97 or 98, you will have to do it manually...simply search your hard drive for a file named outlook.pst and copy it and paste it wherever you store copies of other files you backup. And as to your comment about the size of the pst file.....be careful....pst files have a maximum size of 2GB....if it ever gets larger than that, it will literally die and you won't be able to get into it....that's why Outlook has an Archive feature that allows you to remove mail earlier than a certain date to a separate pst file called archive.pst....if you don't know how to do this, check Outlook's help files...it's explained in there (or you could take my online Outlook class, Pam *wink*) Linda Publisher ~ ABC ~ All 'Bout Computers Owner ~ Linda's Computer Stop http://personal-computer-tutor.com FREE MS Office eBook Tutorial http://personal-computer-tutor.com/library.htm -----Original Message----- From: pctechtalk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:pctechtalk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Pam Sent: Saturday, July 20, 2002 2:18 AM To: pctechtalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Re: now Outlook's deleted files hmmm, so then all the deleted files are still somehow there in Outlook too, even if Outlook handles it differently? If so, and at the rate I use email I cannot imagine how big that file must be! Also, let's talk about backing it up then since I never have.
