Cris,
    I'm not sure why an external using the older FAT formatting 
(occasionally referred to as FAT16) would cause such a problem, but it's not 
beyond belief, either.  (These infernal &!$*% contraptions!!!)      lol

    Anyway, I'm glad to hear that the replacement file seems to have done 
the trick.  You're right that it's probably best for you to go ahead with 
your plan to back up the files presently on it, format it with either FAT32 
or NTFS and then copy the files back onto it so the issue becomes complete 
history.  Yes there ARE numerous programs that will change the formatting 
system without destroying the files on the drive, but why take a chance with 
your only copies of those files.
