On a side note... ALT-F4 shuts down the application that you're currently on. So, if you have Microsoft Word up on the screen, and are in that window specifically (as opposed to Word being minimized) then ALT-F4 would shut down Word. For it to shut down the computer, you need to have your focus on Windows itself... meaning, the desktop. Clicking once on the desktop would give you just that, or hitting the SHOW DESKTOP icon on the bottom by the START button would likewise achieve giving Windows the focus. THEN... ALT-F4 will shut down windows. Other method, of course, would be to hold down the power switch on the tower, which will automatically bypass the tower's soft switch and shut down the system, no questions asked. Typically takes about 5 seconds. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ SirTroth ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ ICQ: 1717439 ~ YAHOO: SirTroth ~ SKYPE: SirTroth ~ XFIRE: SirTroth ~ AIM/AOL: SirTrothX ~ http://ut2004.sirtroth.com ~ MSN: SirTroth@xxxxxxxxxxx (For MSN Chat) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ -----Original Message----- From: pctechtalk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:pctechtalk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Sandi Beach Sent: Wednesday, September 24, 2008 12:42 PM To: pctechtalk Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- computer freezing Yesterday I found that the wireless connection had stayed on all night without losing the connection but it would not send or receive mail. When I tried to disconnect it would not. I was able to access my mail with my dialup connection then I shut everything down and tried a soft reboot. Would not work. Tried to just shut down and still it would not. I had a sticky note here that said Alt and F4 would shut down windows but that did not work either. I had to pull the plug from the wall. When I started back up everything ran normally again and the wireless would again sent and receive e-mail. This morning the same thing happened and again I was able to send and receive with dial up but when I attempted to disconnect from dial up the same behavior occurred. Would not disconnect and I was unable to shut down windows until I pulled the plug from the wall. Yesterday I blamed it on the wireless air card but today I am not so sure. Any ideas as to what is going on??
