Part of the Defrag/Scandisk problem could be in its settings.  One of the
first things I do to a system is to go in and select all of the scans it can
check (by default, half of them are not selected).  It could be that Defrag
is detecting problems that Scandisk isn't set to seek/correct.

I agree with Rick- Running ScanDisk is not +that+ reliable because it tells
you there are no errors but Defrag claims the opposite.
