Hello all. I had thought about implementing software to cut down on the "bad" sites they could go to, but this kid is clever. He disabled the one on the computer at school (I think the teacher paddled him) and Grandma doesn't want to break anything at her sons house. With parental locks being a questionable option, I invited Grandma over to my house (We are next door.), and I will show her how to change web sites, how to look and see where they have been, and how to shut down properly. We have a community college, but they told her over the phone the course was $330 even with a senior discount, and that is too high for her. I also made her two wooden paddles for her to display- maybe seeing the paddles will slow them down. I will show her how to log off, how to play a game, (I suggested she limit them to one game she would recognize the sounds to from another room, and if the sounds change or quit, she can come in to see what they are doing. She had not thought of that. These kids are not "bad" they just take advantage of opportunities they see. I also suggested she could unplug the keyboard after shutting the computer down if necessary. Don't worry, I am on Grandma's side. I told her if she felt "caught" on it, to page me and I would walk over and shut it down for her. I had not heard of NickJr. Thanks for all of the suggestons. She baby sits four grand kids and they take advantage of her when she catches them at a web site most parents would object to. --snipped-- To unsub or change your email settings: //www.freelists.org/webpage/pctechtalk To access our Archives: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PCTechTalk/messages/ //www.freelists.org/archives/pctechtalk/
