did you run your hp trouble shooter? I think you can get to it from control panel/printers/ and click on your printer. then go to help/troubleshoot. I've had this same thing happen to me with my HP printers. Normally a re-boot fixes the problem. unplugging the printer sometimes before the re-boot - but I've never had it continue to do it after I've turned it off and re-booted.
