Remember that with WinXP you can change the drive letters to anything you like.
I have my main system set as:

A - floppy drive
B - LS-120 SuperDisk floppy drive
C - HD1 - Partition 1
D - HD1 - Partition 2
E - HD2
F - SCSI CD-Rom drive
G - Plextor CD-R drive
H - Sony DVD-R drive
I - Iomega Zip drive
J - temp drive for removeable media, such as Sony MemoryStick.

I am not sure , but to me it seems like computers vary a bit by brand name .
On mine it is A for Floppy----- C for Hard Drive (HDD) . ----- R for
normal Compact Disc Drive.--- Q for internal Burner drive. ----E for
external Zip Drive. The external Burner is Compact Disc D. . Lionel.

I also have A (floppy), C, D and E. My D drive is the DVD drive and E
is the CD drive (burner). My dealer told me to use the DVD for running
CDs also and to save the CD drive (E) just for burning CDs.
