I'll be interested in hearing occasional updates as your project progresses. 
One thing, though.  The registry's starting size comes more from OS and 
hardware entries than from any software initially added to it.  But the 
majority of errors are usually located within the Software sections.  In my 
own current project (creating tech collections of portable apps for use on 
client systems), I've come across numerous 'portables' that still insist on 
writing to the registry.  Some clean up after themselves when they're 
closed, but some don't.  Be aware.
