Just thought I would put in a little input here. It is true that with a win98 bootdisk drives over 64gig cannot be fdisk'd with the fdisk that is on the original BUT there is an updated version of fdisk that DOES handle drives over 64gig. You can find it here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q263044 This fdisk applies to win95 win98 and win98se :) -----Original Message----- From: pchelpers-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:pchelpers-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Nigel Sent: Thursday, April 24, 2003 1:34 PM To: pchelpers@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [pchelpers] Re: Format Large Hard Drive w/ FAT32 Win 98 fdisk has a bug in it - it cannot fdisk drives larger than 64 gig. If it sees a drive bigger than 64 gig, it partitions it to the difference between the actual size and 64 gig. There is a knowledge base article about it and a patch. At work the other day I tried to install a 120 gig drive and found I was only able to get 48 out of it. The difference in the numbers is the difference in the way gigs are added up. The drive manufacturer counts bytes at the rate of 1024 in a thousand while fdisk counts 1000 as a thousand so a 120 gig drive is actually only about 112 to fdisk, hence the 48 gig size.
