Well sure. I was assuming the PATH was correct. I should have said "As = long as the bin directory for the right version of Oracle is FIRST in = the path" which is what I meant. Even if I have two installations of Oracle, e.g. Oracle 8.1 and Oracle = 9.2, and the BIN directory for Oracle 8.1 is first in the path, I should = still be able to "connect / as sysdba" to a 9.2 local database if I cd = %ORACLE_92_HOME%/bin and then run SQL*Plus. > -----Original Message----- > Jared.Still@xxxxxxxxxxx >=20 > ORACLE_HOME doesn't need to be set in the environment. > But if you want to connect via '/ as sysdba' you will need to run > the Oracle Home Selector and open a new CMD window. >=20 > The Home Selector changes the search order of the PATH variable. >=20 > If you try to login as '/ as sysdba' on a 9i database while the search > path is set to find 8i first, you will get an error. > >=20 > "Jacques Kilchoer" <Jacques.Kilchoer@xxxxxxxxx> >=20 > Does the ORACLE_HOME really make a difference on Windows, and=20 > if so why? > As long as the bin directory for the right version of Oracle=20 > is in the > path, why would it matter?
