I'm regularly faced by managers who can't believe that I have trouble
remembering the root password to our UNIX boxes. They can't get their
head around the idea that it's just been sitting there doing what it
supposed to do for the last 6 months or more without human
intervention beyond changing backup tapes and checking the backup logs
(which are emailed to a central account). I haven't needed to login
to reboot it or apply a couple of million vital security patches every
few days. It Just Works.

Me too. I've worked with various flavours and every one has it's own
quirks and strengths. I'm mainly working with Solaris right now.
