To address your second question, yes you can "downgrade" from EE to SE,
provided you aren't using any enterprise features (as you indicated).  I've
done this myself.  Just install SE in a separate ORACLE_HOME and copy over
any config files that are located in your EE ORACLE_HOME directory.  Modify
any references to the home directory (such as in listener.ora) and run your
database from the SE home.
