Make sure you spend the proper time researching bugs related to expdp and transportable tablespaces. If you are < 10.2.0.5, there are lots of lurking issues. We were nearly burned by bug 5598333 on 10.2.0.3 which also affects 10.2.0.4 and the long data type. We ended up doing expdp/impdp rather than transportable tablespaces for our migration. You get the benefit of a nicely reorganized database if you can afford the down time. If you can afford to do a 10.2.0.5 upgrade prior to expdp or TT, you shouldn't have to worry...of course you need to pay for extended support to get the most recent 10.2.0.5 patch set...isn't Oracle just great? -----Original Message----- From: oracle-l-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:oracle-l-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Jeff Chirco Sent: Wednesday, January 18, 2012 7:25 PM To: oradba.la@xxxxxxxxx; oracle-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: Convert database from AIX to Windows We did this same thing 1 year ago with about the same size database. I pre-created all the tablespaces ahead of time on the new database then just did a full database datapump export from our 10.2.0.4 database then imported it into the new at that time 11.1.0.7 database. Took a few hours but it worked well. I voted against Windows but was over ruled. But I do have to say that we have not any issues with our database running on Windows, actually we had more issues with AIX. -----Original Message----- From: oracle-l-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:oracle-l-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Manjula Krishnan Sent: Wednesday, January 18, 2012 11:52 AM To: oracle-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Convert database from AIX to Windows Hi all: There is a proposal to consolidate all hardware platform and we are looking at converting the database from IBM/AIX to Windows. What would be the best method to do this? Datapump or Transportable tablespace? The database is about 120G with2 large tablespaces each about 50-60G. Any gotchas with this conversion?
