Hi Luc,

IMO the solution you're suggesting is a very good compromise!
The backup at the instance level is done just once.

If you use it to backup the archived logs to tape only once a day, you
should make sure of the fault tolerance of the disks holding these
backupsets (you won't be able to rely on multiple archivelog
destinations anymore unless you don't delete the logs as soon as
they're backed up...)
