For point 2 you can rpovide them some wrapper script.
If you are using hp-ux 11.31 I suugest you use HP Native Multipath (Mass
Storage Stack). With this you can create meaning ful disk names such as
/dev/disk/ocr
/dev/disk/asmdsk1
etc.
Also iostat will show you these meaningful names.
the only advantage I see from using SLVM is that it provides some sort of
protection against accidental usage whereas with pure ASM this is not
possible
