How absurd, Craig. They got their power the same way any other very

Hmmmmmmm...
So giving three companies exclusive access to U.S. homes to build their
entertainment empires can be compared to say inventing the Personal Computer?
Funny how the courts just decided that the Internet is not a 'communication
channel," thus streaming services are not entitled to the compulsory license
rates that the MVPDs pay. This despite the fact that the networks that brought
the case are making billions selling their content to Internet streaming video
services.
Creating oligopolies is not a prerequisite to market success. And as
technical constraints have diminished, and more media companies have emerged
and are able to compete, some of the old faithful remain powerhouses. Because
they evolved with the markets.
Apparently the courts do not agree with you.
GREAT POINT BERT! I really do care when a network suddenly
disappears, just before one of the few events that I actually
watch from that network, which I am PAYING FOR.
Surprise surprise! That's called market leverage, caused by strong demand
No Bert. This is called "greenmail" - the abusive use of monopoly power to
extract monopoly rents.
. It has NOTHING to do with your "oligopolies." And yet, you have two obvious
choices. (1) You have to insist to Cox that they charge you more, so they can
pay the conglom more. (2) Or, in this particular case, use an antenna! Do not
complain, allow for the network signal to remain dark ad infinitum, without a
peep from you or anyone else. You have the PERFECT option, and yet you
stubbornly don't use it, and you whine instead! If you weren't such a wuss,
the conglom would have to relent. But being such a wuss, the conglom will
naturally prefer to charge you more. Wouldn't you do the same in their shoes?]
Hell no. I am paying them for this content.
It's called monopoly power, not market power.
There was no shortage of retail and rental outlets for videotapes
and DVDs Bert.
That's exactly the way I see the TV content market too. Multiple sources of
content, with OTA and Internet, but only as long as the Internet is neutral.
Otherwise, it could devolve into the scheme you're still wedded to.
Too late. The Internet has already evolved into a new distribution medium for
TV content. The congloms are about to take an even bigger share of the profits
from their oligopoly as they eliminate the MVPD middlemen.
So please explain to us why the content viewed on these TVs -
content that was originally "FREE," has become more expensive,
Earth to Craig: it's still free! It is only for people like you, who insist
on remaining tethered to monopolistic services, that it becomes expensive!
Your delivery pipe is what causes the distortion. Mine does not.
I have no need for that antenna. In fact I have little if any need for the
broadcast networks and a hundred rerun channels that I am forced to pay for, to
buy the content I do want.
It must suck to be you, as all you see is the crap they fill the broadcast
networks with. To you, the content out of the country is watching simply does
not exist.
Regards
Craig
