No. that was never the point. The point was that 480/576P formats
deliver most of the benefits of HDTV on smaller screens.
Those were the days of one-way broadcast, Craig. So this point is, you know,
pointless. In one-way broadcast, it's far better to have a single standard that
large and small displays can use to the best advantage for themselves, than
having to create simulcasts. And anyway, even with that said, small and large
sets all went to HDTV anyway. Even if initially they weren't, that's where they
all ended up. The same will happen with 4K. Displays will converge to that
standard. You can see it happening. My next set will be 4K for sure, although
it may not be the best of HDR.
But you (mostly) ignore the reality that there is little if any
benefit in buying. 4K TV today.
I repeat: If cost and size are not issues, what do you have to lose? And don't
get confused with the Wired article. All it was saying to wait for is HDR, not
4K.
There are no downsides to higher quality audio formats and
devices. But hardly anyone is buying them.
Nonsense. For those happy with mediocrity, the TVs' sound systems might be
enough. For those not happy with mediocrity, there are many options out there,
including "sound bars." I even had a sound bar in the last hotel room I was in,
for pete's sake. Even Target and Walmart sell these. They sell just fine. And
just about all TV sets these days include Toslink audio output. So you really
need to get out more, Craig.
Look at the subject line, Craig. The article is about HDR. You
felt obliged to mention that iPhones do HDR, and that all displays
should be HDR. And I said no. Not only do iPhones NOT do HDR, but
all displays CANNOT be HDR.
Wrong.
What's "wrong," Craig? How do you keep doing this? The title is about uploading
HDR to YouTube. Check it out. And you claimed iPhones do HDR already. Here's
YOUR quote:
It is noteworthy that Apple is leading the tech industry with adoption
of HDR and WCG in a growing range of products. The new iPhone 7's, ...
The only thing noteworthy is that you got confused between realities and
marketing hype. Did you already forget?
Someday it is very likely that all displays will be HDR
Wrong. I explained why that's wrong. Wide gamut, sure. HDR, in some venues,
would give you a sunburn.
