Subject: [ola] More Progression Activities!

Hello Everyone!

I hope that you are having a wonderful beginning to the new year. The semester,
all around the state and country is winding down, if it hasn't already ended.
In light of that, I have a couple of activities that can be used as an
activity, or a type of speaking exam. I will explain them below:

1. Progression Graphic Organizer

I have a photo for this activity that is attached. (See the photo to see how
the graphic organizer is designed).

So this activity is very simple:

1. The teacher (or students for that matter) select 4 vocab words and you put
them in designed corners of the whiteboard space you are going to be using.
Create a space for a question, per vocab word.

- Leave a bracketed space in the middle of the whiteboard for key vocab words
pertaining to questions (i.e. big picture). Add to the list as new vocab comes
up.

2. Once the vocabulary has been established, have a student come up with a
question that pertains to the first used vocab word (upper left hand corner).
Students in the class discuss the question in pairs and after the allotted time
is up, approx 3 students share.

3. Select a 4th student to write the next question (WHICH MUST BE LINKED TO THE
PREVIOUS AND CURRENT WORD) for discussion. Students change positions and with a
new partner, discuss the topic of the 2nd question. Again, 3 students are
chosen (new ones) to give their answers, but if more want to chime in, it is
all good. A 4th student is then selected to write the next question...and so
goes the process until 4 questions are developed, and vocabulary is created
into a new list.

Take a look at the photo of the finished product.

I am going to pilot another version of Socratic Seminar but with a lot more
movement. I will keep you posted and post it once I have tested it.

Enjoy the activity,

Ricardo
