My favorite camera is the one that is easiest to carry, currently a Nikon
Coolpix S9600 (now 2 years old).
From 1994-2003 I schlepped around an SLR and telephoto lens, for five of those
years my long lens was a Televue Pronto telescope. From 2004-2011, I used
Canon and Panasonic bridge cameras for several years.
For the last five years, I have just used pocket sized point and shoot cameras.
The S9600 makes great HD Video, has a good macro mode, and makes satisfying
still images.
The biggest minus is not the imaging quality, but the lack of a viewfinder.
Even with that, I do not expect to ever revert to carrying heavier equipment in
the field.

Hi everyone, I’m going to upgrade my camera (currently a decent
point-and-shoot) to better photograph birds on the trip to Australia later this
year. Any recommendations?
Thanks!
