- Comments: "Goldeneye, female-plumage with rather triangular-shaped brown
head typical of Common. Head didn't have the square, blocky look of a
Barrow's, nor was the bill stubby-looking. Gold eye. Bill all dark. White
flecking on grey back, scapulars, especially prominent in the shoulder
area. Briefly saw large white patch in the secondaries when wing was
extended. Watched duck in good light through scope, at the surface between
bouts of diving. It wasn't very far offshore, perhaps 200m."

- Comments: "Doug alerted me to the presence of 8 terns while I was in the
SW corner. I quickly drove N and spotted 8 smallish white terns flying off
to the west. Didn't get close looks, but birds had long tails, very white
wings without much discernible pattern at the distance, black caps, short
bills.
Doug's photo bears out this impression. It shows two very pale Sterna terns
with complete dark caps (pretty much ruling out FOTE this time of year), a
rather short, rounded head (unlike the elongated head profile of a COTE)
with a short, deep red bill (with no or very little dark at the tip), very
white underside (as opposed to COTE, which tends to be grayer, at least in
adult breeding plumage), wings pale grayish on the upper side, with no sign
of a dark wedge, white below with a narrow black trailing edge along the
primary tips. Long tails. --> all good field marks for Arctic Tern."

Leiothlypis warblers, I feel very confident that this was a TEWA. First
noted a faint but definitely present supercilium, white undertail coverts,
short tail with primaries projecting backward overlapping with the tail,

museum in the small, round tree in the yard north of the residents
quarters. "

- Comments: "Briefly saw what looked to be an immature or female type. My
first thought was Townsend's, but then I notice blazing white thick wing
bars, no necklace, dark and streaked nape, and faint mask with a dirty
yellow wash running down to the mid breast. First observed directly south
of the large spruce in the isolated lilacs around 3:50. It then flew
further south to the lilac hedge row where I lost it. Tried hard to
relocated in the following 20 mins but couldn't. Lots of wind blowing birds
around."

- Comments: "Very possibly 2. What I thought to be a juvenile male appeared
in the bushes directly north of the main deck. Bold white supercilium,
streaky breast, and a little rose on the upper breast. When I returned to
the main deck, my parents said they had a RBGR but without any significant
color on the upper breast, but weren't possitive. So there is very likely 2
RBGR wandering around HQ."

- Comments: "When I took this photo I had been told that a female
Black-headed Grosbeak had just been seen so as I was heading for the car I
saw this guy and took a shot without taking a good look. Now that I go
through the photos, I am pretty sure this is a 1st year Male Rose-breasted
Grosbeak. Streaking is much bolder and the white throat and redder chest
suggests Rose-breasted. ."
