Our housestaff have to get the Attending Physician to prescribe controlled substances. I don't know if this will continue into e-prescribing, and I certainly have discussed the issues with them if they choose to continue this practice, but to date I have no response that they will change this practice. I'm inquiring about the suffix (numeric code) that hospitals assign to residents and other prescribers that is intended to be used in conjunction with the institutional DEA number. 5. How many integers in the suffix? 6. Does it contain both number and letters? 7. Is the suffix recycled and if so how often? 8. Have you considered using the employee's ID number as the suffix which many be as long as 7 digits. Please respond through the listserv. Thank you Elizabeth A.
