Mary Donelson Coffee, widow of Gen. John Coffee, lived on their plantation
north of Florence. The Federal troops spared her home because of John.
Scalawags , tories (that's what turn coats in Lauderdale county were called)
burned her home. She lived her remaining years in the first cabin she and
John had built when they first moved to the area. This is from book "Papa was
a boy in Gray." Mary's aunt was Rachel Donelson Jackson who married Gen.
Andrew Jackson. Betty.
