Mike K. has suggested that I misunderstood your original post.

There are at least two issues here:

1. Physical connectivity - the "dumb terminals" need to be physically
connected to the Linux box. If we are using traditional devices, then they
are likely to use some variant of RS-232 - a.k.a. traditional 25/9 pin
serial. If you are wanting to connect via Ethernet then, yes, you will need
a protocol converter or some kind of serial port device. If you are
planning on replacing those terminals w/ some kind of "thin" device (like
the Etherminal units from Igel I used to sell) then such devices are not
needed. The same is true for PCs, etc.
2. Logical connectivity - Once the terminals are physically connected
to the Linux box, then getting to your Pick applications could be as easy as
Telnet/SSH or just running a "getty" program on each port. The options are
nearly unlimited.

Thank you,
Chuck

I think what you are referring to is called Telnet. (or more

If the dumb terminal is needed only a text interface, then there's nothing

Chuck:

Are you saying that, when ASCII only output is required, all that needs to
be done is define the target in the SSH protocol to make this work?

We are working on a project to rehost an old native Pick system on
OpenQM/Linux and will need to replace the functionality of the
multi-user board with terminal servers, a little gadget that translates
to LAN protocol to what a dumb terminal can understand.

If anyone has any of these laying around please let me know what brand
and model number they are and how much, if any, you want for them.

Any other suggestions, like for currently available
make/model/partnumber that you know work , are certainly welcome.
