Thanks Dirkjan. And yes the reason I've emphasized the D is to make sure
everyone understands - I won't run this project by consensus any more than I
run any of my other projects that way.
(When I founded illumos I set it up as a democracy. This has been a very double
edged sword. While it probably encouraged more people to join the lack of any
single authority figure has really done a lot to stymie technical progress
there as many people have very competing goals for that project. I won't ever
make that mistake again. The cathedral works far better than the bazaar in most
cases I've seen.)
To be honest I expect very little to change from the days prior to my stepping
down - except that I won't fret about whether some good change annoys one or
two outspoken individuals.

The reason I’m wiling to do this is *solely* because I don’t want to see
nanomsg whither and die. And yet, that seems to be where its headed. I’ve
gotten some indications in support of me doing this in other fora, and at
least one formerly active contributor has indicated that he might begin
contributing again under my leadership.

However, I will not take control of the project by fiat. In particular,
Dirkjan Ochtman needs to make a decision as he is the last person with
commit privileges to the github repo. Technically I still have admin
privileges, but I’d rather not act without his consent.
I'm in favor of you taking ownership of the project. I'm also in favor
of you acting as the BDFL, though IMO in this thread you seem to be
leaning a bit more towards the D side than would have my preference.
Perhaps that's just a precaution to make sure people aren't surprised
later on, though?
Unfortunately I don't have the experience with the code that allows me
to take on technical leadership, and frankly I have quite a bit of
other stuff going on anyway. I'm happy to still be around for support,
and I might have opinions if asked. But, I strongly feel that it would
be sad if nanomsg withered and died, which I agree seems likely if
someone doesn't take ownership. And, it looks like the majority of the
community supports you, anyway. So please go ahead!
George, I would be interested in your rationale for not wanting to be
involved if Garrett exerts more ownership. To me, it seems pretty
unlikely it will make things worse around here.
