Actually, they shouldn't be looking at the screen, but rather at the item from which they are typing, such as a hand written page or book. ;-) Dian Chapman Technical Consultant, Instructor, Microsoft MVP & TechTrax Editor Word AutoForm/VBA eBook: http://www.mousetrax.com/books.html Tutorial web site: http://www.mousetrax.com/techpage.html TechTrax Ezine: http://www.mousetrax.com/techtrax/ -----Original Message----- From: mso-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:mso-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Neil Atwood Sent: Monday, November 25, 2002 1:14 PM To: mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [mso] Re: noisy capital letters As an aside to this thread... Surely, the definition of a 'touch typist' is someone who DOESN'T look at the keyboard, but DOES look at the screen? By the definition mentioned in this thread, I'm a touch typist (as in, I look at the keyboard while I type), a title which makes me LOL! ;-) Regards ____________________________________ ,,,,, Neil Atwood - natwood@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx=20 =D4=BF=D4=AC Sydney, Australia=20 There are 10 types of people - those who understand binary and those who don't. =20 =20 -----Original Message----- From: mso-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:mso-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Glenda Wells Sent: Tuesday, 26 November 2002 1:08 AM To: 'mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' I don't have the answer to your question Errol but if this student has any speed to the typing, the caps lock beeping might be distracting. I also do touch typing and seldom look at the screen. The caps lock is always a problem but having a beeping caps lock key might be distracting. I've learned to not worry about it since Word formatting can be used to change the case of the fonts easily enough afterwards. Back in the day, touch typists HAD to worry about those things because typewriters didn't have the awesome correction abilities we have today. Don't put any pressure on your student about the caps lock...encourage her to concentrate on speed and accuracy and let the tools in the software do the rest. g -----Original Message----- From: Errol Sapir [mailto:errol@xxxxxxxxxxx]=20 Sent: Sunday, November 24, 2002 6:09 PM To: mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [mso] noisy capital letters Content-Type: Text/Plain; charset=3D"windows-1255" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Is there any way of making the keyboard "beep" if one has caps lock engag=3D ed.
