I really thank you for this comment!

But, this is a book with as I said many pages and peoples names are indexed
to the pages this name shows up on, some show on many pages, So I am lost as
to how doing them in Styles would help?  There are some 5000 probably names
in the index,

I believe I see how and what you mean but it would take many headers to make
it work as I see it?

I have a lot to learn about Word  That's for sure.

If you create styles with your fonts in Word ie Header 1, Hesader 2 Header 3
all of different fonts and sizes you could then index / crfeate a table of
contents automatically.  The Index / TOC is then clickable to the section in
the main text.
