Jan...this is tuff cuz if they truly are hard returns (you can tell this
if you turn on your hidden characters and see a backwards P at the end
of these lines...turn on hidden characters by clicking on the backwards
P on your toolbar)....if they are backwards P's you can use find and
replace to remove them. Just put ^p in the Find what box and leave the
Replace with box empty and Word will remove them all. However, it will
also remove the ones that you DO want, so you have to do some manual
cleanup anyway.

But, if they are not really hard returns but instead are soft returns or
manual line breaks, they will not show as backward Ps, but will show as
bent arrows that point to the left. In this case you would use ^l
(that's a lower cased L) in find/replace and replace these with nothing.

Here's a page where I show what some of those symbols you see when you
turn on your hidden characters mean....In the Find/Replace dialog box,
there's a button that says More, and when you click on that, then
there's a button that says Special....if you click on that, you will see
that you can replace more than just text with find/replace.

Here's my mini-tutorial on Find/Replace, which includes a link to that
page that shows the hidden symbols and what they mean...hope this helps:

Subject: [mso] Re-formatting a Word paragraph

Is there an easy way to change the line lengths on text pasted into
a Word document? At times I copy text from an email message or
other source, and save into a Word document, and at some point may
want to print the document. When the copied text has hard returns
at the end of every line, and the line lengths are pretty short, it
makes for a very long document. I'd like to increase the length of
the lines for a shorter printed document.

By easy I mean not having to go through and do this manually by
deleting the hard returns <g>.

I would also like to add that I've been doing a lot of lurking on
this list since I signed up and have learned so much. Even the
discussions that slide into what amounts to a foreign language to
me (the recent VBA stuff) are interesting. (Although a preview is
coming - I'm taking Dian's Word 301 in January). I am continually
amazed at the willingness of the group to help others solve problems.

Thanks to all!

Jan
