David, The only thing I can think of is that when you open Word, Word is not starting with blank document but rather with its template. Perhaps a Save As and selecting the file type as .docx will help. I have deleted or renamed all startup templates and disabled addins in trust center. If I start using /a it is OK. I do not know where else to look for the rouge program which is, presumably, altering a toolbar or something each time I start. The only clue is that there was a tab â??Add-Insâ?? with an item on it called, I think, something Toolbar, which was always unclickable. This has now disappeared, not sure why. MS Office diagnostics says no problems.
