That's an unusual path for it. Normally (using the User Templates setting from Tools, Options, File Locations) you should find it in: C:\documents and settings\<your username>\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates No version of Word ever destroyed normal.dot at exit and then recreated it at start up. The only time it will be recreated is if it can't be found by Word. See if you have a path similar to above and place a copy of the normal.dot you want to use in that folder. Then, using the dialog described above, make sure of where Word expects to find User Templates. The idea of this file being placed in the User Templates folder is for the situation in which there are several different users on the same system, all of whom are allowed to have their own normal template.
