hi xtine,
i have encountered this problem before where i have a lot of rows to format as
text, when the original entry is a number. what i did before was to format the
column as text then go thru all of it and press F2 to refresh. somehow i
exercise my finger with it. :)
an easy way to do it is, given that the column where the numbers are place is
in
Column C and starts in Row 2 up to 200.
the number of character which is needed for a particular cell is 10, sample
cell
C2 has an entry of 12345678 this has to be 0012345678
and cell C3 has an entry of 123456 this has to be 0000123456
i insert another column (Column D) and in cell D2 i put a formula
=Right(Concatenate("0000000000"&C2),10)
Drag this formula up to cell D200 and copy paste special.
Delete column C, Format column D as text.
for the comma default i dont think u can change it. but you can custom format.

I work a lot with data that is all numbers but has to be formatted as text
due to the leading zeros. Is there an easy way to format the cells as text?
Going to the Home tab (assuming I'm not there) and clicking on the drop down
arrow then scrolling down to text takes more mouse clicks than I'd like. I
know I can use the keyboard shortcuts but what I was hoping to be able to do
is put button the Quick Launch Bar, but that doesn't seem to be an option.
And another question - The comma format button defaults to 2 decimals.
Anyway to change that to 0 decimals? I also work with a lot of data that
needs to be formatted with a comma but without decimal points.
