Hi! If the numbers you have have a fixed length, you can keep them as numbers but still see leading zeros by formatting the cells with a custom format which is all zeros for the required length, e.g. where the number always has 6 digits you can set a custom format of "000000" (without the quotes). Then, if you enter a number such as 123, it will appear as 000123 and a number such as 1234 will appear as 001234. Still working on understanding the second question you asked . . . Cheers, Bill. -----Original Message----- From: mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Monday, 25 April 2011 15:05 To: mso digest users Subject: mso Digest V10 #27 MSO Digest To view individual posts in the archives, go here: //www.freelists.org/archives/mso------------------------------------ mso Digest Sun, 24 Apr 2011 Volume: 10 Issue: 027 In This Issue: [mso] Excel 2007 - Easily Format Cell as Text [mso] Re: Excel 2007 - Easily Format Cell as Text [mso] Re: Excel 2007 - Easily Format Cell as Text ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Christine" <blue3123@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: [mso] Excel 2007 - Easily Format Cell as Text Date: Sun, 24 Apr 2011 08:35:46 -0700 Greetings, I work a lot with data that is all numbers but has to be formatted as text due to the leading zeros. Is there an easy way to format the cells as text? Going to the Home tab (assuming I'm not there) and clicking on the drop down arrow then scrolling down to text takes more mouse clicks than I'd like. I know I can use the keyboard shortcuts but what I was hoping to be able to do is put button the Quick Launch Bar, but that doesn't seem to be an option. And another question - The comma format button defaults to 2 decimals. Anyway to change that to 0 decimals? I also work with a lot of data that needs to be formatted with a comma but without decimal points. Thanks, any suggestions would be appreciated. It won't show up when the cell is displayed or printed, but it will cause the following characters to be treated as text. In a message dated 4/24/2011 11:36:18 A.M. Delete column C, Format column D as text. for the comma default i dont think u can change it. but you can custom format. hope this help ________________________________ From: Christine <blue3123@xxxxxxxxxxxx> To: mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Sun, April 24, 2011 11:35:46 PM Subject: [mso] Excel 2007 - Easily Format Cell as Text Greetings, I work a lot with data that is all numbers but has to be formatted as text due to the leading zeros.
