Thanks, but the "numbers" I need to format as text will never be part of a
calculation. They're designators for offices and companies and they happen
to be made up of all numbers, many of which have leading zeros, so when
formatted as a number, they lose the leading zeros. I really just wanted to
be able to format the cell as text with a click of a button, rather than 2
or 3 clicks. I suppose the easiest thing to do is record a quick macro.

If you format your numbers as text, you won't be able to do any
calculations with it. Might I suggest that you custom format the cells
using
00000000 (or 00,000,000 if you want a comma separator) as the mask.
