Well Ladies and Gents, here's my spin; ;-) Commodore was a 'make a fast buck' company they killed(sold off) the Amiga, Vic20/64 while leading the pack on video pre-production and desktop publishing. Atari perhaps bad management and price war with other computer makers. I think I remember them closing the British factory to reopen on the Pacific Rim, then wanted to become a game company. Sinclair had some cool systems, but way too weird (like an American driving in London) to gain a foothold here. Meanwhile, IBM shot themselves in the foot trying to create systems other's couldn't clone(PS2) then created the PC jr for home use without 'real' (read business) software to run on like its AT/XT. Apple (bless their hearts) was so snotty they refused anyone getting inside the box, then allowed clones then disallowed clones; refused mail order sales, and had hard to find stores. They'd be #1 if they'd sold to mass marketers. Don't even mention the NEXT computer! ;-) those clones started innovating (Dell), outside venders said, hmmm video cards/sound cards, it's not just for business, lets make games! and those 'interesting business practices' of Intel/M$ all lead to 'inferior, but it works' line many geeks used. This is not a rant...;-) is my way of seeing the victory of the WinTel dynasty. <paul> ------------------------------------------------------------------------- FIGHT BACK AGAINST SPAM!
