[mso] Re: DIAN...is there a "trim" function in Word field codes?... (was Office 97 Word Merge)

See, now you're confusing me.<g> Trimming is removing the leading and
trailing spaces from a string. The routine I showed shows how to get the
first letter but I didn't understand where she wants that letter to go.
Using a macro, we can change the value of the field or, if that's too
hard, we can replace the field with the text from the result. I think
you're correct that we won't successfully get control of that field
directly unless we can show it another data source simply because there
is no (that I can find) Left function that can be used with a merge
field. And, of course, the simplest solution is to put a macro layer
between this database which can't be modified and the document, or so it
at first appears.

Just need to get more info from Glenda to see what's she's doing with
that letter. Nope, I didn't answer completely and I failed to make it
clear I needed more info (that's what I get for answering the phone
while writing).

With thinking this clear, is coding really a good idea?"
