Hi Jesse
The springing is done by rubber "bushes". These are held in tapered cones
and have a "washer" with a curved nose that squeezes it as weight is
applied. It actually works very well and gives a surprisingly compliant
ride. I will put a sketch up of the arrangement so you can see how it works.
As a result the whole wheel set is free to float and thus aligns itself
axial to the track on curves hence the reason it is referred to as being
'self steering'

What Ho Andy,  No springing on the trolley suspension?  Just the rocking arm
to apply pressure to the journal boxes?
