Roger,
Would you like a copy of the original documents that came with the castings.
Bear in mind that I would have to post them to you from the land of Aus.
John

Subject: [modeleng] Boring/Facing Head

Hi All,

Over the weekend I attended the local club's auction of tools and
materials. I ended up spending far more than I had intended!!

One of the items I bought was a boring/facing head. I am sure this
was described in the M.E. many years ago, but I cannot remember when.
I wonder if anyone knows?

Let me try and describe it - It screws on to the lathe spindle (it
does not plug into the Morse taper). The main body is a bronze, half
round ("D" shaped), casting. The part that slides and holds the
boring bar is an aluminium casting, having two holes for the boring bar
(one hole for small holes and one hole for larger holes, and facing).
The screw which moves the aluminium part has a large aluminium star
wheel on it - this is used when in the facing mode. This star wheel
has fifty divisions on it to move the tool thou by thou, when boring.

Unfortunately the lathe that this was made for had a slightly
smaller spindle nose than my Myford. I am trying to work out how to
hold the main body in order to bore it out to fit the Myford. Clearly
if the facing mode is to produce a truly flat surface, it needs to be
held very carefully when re-boring it. I wonder what the original
articles said about this?

I look forward to some informed guesses on this item.

       Cheers,

          Roger Mason, in St. Agnes.
