I used to do it that way, too; then, I discovered that by interacting with the messages table, I can VO right arrow until I'm hearing just the subjects, or the sender's name/address, and arrow down that column. I can then hit Tab or VO J to Jump to the message content area. It takes away some of the "browsing," quality to E-mail, but when you wake up and have 300 messages in your Inbox ... it's time to chop so list traffic. :)
