CJ,
Thank you for your opinion, I truly do value your input. I was afraid of this
and being that it is a company machine I know there is little I can do to
control it. I will definitely bring it up with the appropriate department
though to see if they are willing to help. Like you, I wish I had not needed to
do the update and that Apple had left it off the list all together. I feel it
would have prevented a lot of this and I still would’ve been able to
successfully perform the tasks of my job. It is very frustrating at the least.

Nicole,
There’s your problem. Big Sur has quite a bit of processing need & that 2014
Mac mini is going to be pushed to keep up. I know, because I have the exact
same situation on a machine down stairs that I use as part of my
entertainment center. It’s very slow & even slower with VoiceOver.
Sometimes the boot process can take a long time & speech is definitely
intermittent during that time frame.
Remember, for the most part, those Mini’s were base machines @ best & they’re
just not unto current processing demands. I was very surprised that Apple
even included them on the list for Big Sur update standards. Really wish
they hadn’t. I’d down-grade to Catalina, but that’s a pain & I don’t use
that computer too much.
I don’t think that any of the usual work-arounds are going to help. But, if
you’re employer is responsive & values your employment, you might approach
them about upgrading the system you use. I know that can be difficult
situation, but most employers, who are willing to hire a visually impairedd
person, are reasonable.
Sorry to voice, what I think is the basic situation. Best of luck,
CJ

Hey Nicole,
That has definitely not been my experience lately. How old is your
computer, and what version of Mac OS are you running? I use Big Sur on an
M1 Mac, and things are as smooth as ever. WebX for Mac isn’t the most
accessible thing out there as I remember, but that’s up to Cisco to make
some changes…

Hi group,
I recently started bacK to work on my Mac mini which is a company
computer. I’ve noticed many changes in terms of accessibility. Voiceover
no longer works as smoothly with most applications as it did before. I am
also noticing that using headphones voiceover often does not read to me so
I have to disconnect the headphones, then reconnect them in order for it
to read it. This is especially true of the login screen. Navigation is no
longer the same for me on webpages and applications such as WebEx either.
Has anyone else noticed any changes with the latest update of macOS?
